Seattle Adds Veteran RB Carlos Hyde

Friday, veteran running back Carlos Hyde agreed to a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Hyde is coming off a career high in rushing yards with 1,070 and had 6 rushing TDs as the lead back in Houston. The Texans were probably going to re-sign him until they pulled off the blockbuster trade sending WR DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona and acquiring RB David Johnson in return.

Although Hyde had a good year last year, he will have a much more limited role with the Seahawks. Chris Carson will be the RB1 next year, and also have a good back-up Rashaad Penny. Penny sprained his ACL last year, so there’s a good chance he will not be ready to start the season. Although some believe Hyde and Carson will split carries, it seems to me the Seahawks signed Hyde as insurance in case Penny will not be able to play most of the year, or if Carson gets hurt there will not be a huge drop-off in production. If healthy, I do not think Hyde will cut into Carson’s fantasy value. In my opinion, Carlos Hyde’s fantasy outlook is likely going to be a bench player, but could have a much bigger role if Chris Carson gets hurt. In case Seattle decides to split carries more evenly, Hyde will be a better fit as a flex in non-PPR leagues.

2020 stat predictions: Carlos Hyde: 100 rushes, 550 yards, 3 TDs.

Chris Carson: 270 rushes, 1,300 yards and 9 TDs.
